Youth Converts Culture in action.

Like our students, we are local and global.  Here are some of the high points.

Beth & Daniel are both awarded ADE 2013.

We are very excited to announce that we have both been honored with the Apple Distinguished Educator award in 2013.  Watch our videos to see what this means to us.

Harvard Graduate School of Education (Spring 2013)

The Alumni of Color Conference is an annual event at Harvard University.  We are honored to be hosting a panel Saturday, March 2nd.  From their site:

"AOCC is a gathering held annually at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) that convenes scholars, policymakers and practitioners in discussions around education and equity. This year's theme is “The Revolution Will be LIVE!”, and the conference will be held on February 28 - March 2, 2013.

The Revolution will be LIVE is a call to action for all who critically engage with education to bring their thoughts, practices, and passions to the 11th Annual Alumni of Color Conference as we begin a second decade of transformative educational scholarship, dialogue, and action.  This year’s conference honors the essence of revolutionary work by challenging us all to think beyond the approaches we normally engage in to promote social justice in education, particularly for students of color.

During this year’s conference we will refocus our energies on the next generation of educational change agents, empowering our youth so that they become co-creators of education, and not just consumers."

Perry County, Alabama (Summer 2012)

YCC spent a week with students and teachers from two high-poverty public school systems in Perry and Hale Counties, Alabama.  This inaugural group helped us clarify the vision of Youth Converts Culture.  With these schools, we have seen a turnaround in student leadership, technology integration, and vital partnerships.

Our mission had three main components:

1) We would assist Perry County students in promoting a positive digital footprint.

2) We would assist Perry County students and teachers in learning and using effective and engaging technology that truly enhances their curriculum.

3) We would elucidate the fact that we all currently live in a truly global community; as such, we would work to promote empathy by focusing all project goals on togetherness, community, and humanity.

The week culminated with a final “screening” event at
Judson College at which the video products of the week were shown along with evidence of new technology integration concepts.  A real dialogue began that we know has empowered the young people (and the educators) in and around Perry County.

Daniel speaks at TEDxHuntsville.

September 15, 2013.  In a talk entitled "Activating Global Citizens," Daniel lays out where we are and where we're going.
